Great Powder for Montana Skiing
Bridger Bowl is located just 16 miles north of Bozeman, Montana. This non-profit ski area offers affordable lift tickets and diverse terrain.
The area gets an average of 350 inches of snow each year, and is best known for it’s extremely dry powder, often called “cold smoke.”
Located far east of the Continental Divide, this area gets great powder, cool temps, and plenty of sunshine - making this a great place for affordable ski vacations.
With over 70 marked trails, from beginner to expert level, Bridger Bowl is a great place for both individual and family skiing. There is also a 2 mile long, expert-only Ridge area for extreme skiing. A free ski bus runs daily from Bozeman to the mountain.
The 2009 season saw the opening of the new Schlasman’s Lift, which transports skiers to the Ridge area. Previously, this area was only accessible by hiking up 600 ft from the top of Bridger Chair. Skiers need to be aware that the Ridge area contains only double diamond runs that include unmarked rock cliffs and steep chutes.
The Ridge requires serious skiing of expert level. There are no easy routes down from the Ridge, and the area is neither groomed nor patrolled. Additionally, avalanche equipment, including a receiver, probe, and shovel, is mandatory for skiers accessing the Ridge area! Skiers accessing this area are advised to ski with a partner.
This Bozeman skiing area offers great Montana skiing, and is much less crowded and less expensive than nearby Big Sky and Moonlight Basin. Bozeman is a college town - so weekdays and holiday breaks are always an excellent time to hit the slopes and avoid lines. With its decent priced lift tickets and wide variety of runs for all skills levels, it’s definitely on the short list for fun, affordable ski vacations!
