Montana Communities

Experience the Montana Lifestyle!

Ever been curious about living the simple life? Most Montana communities offer an easy-going way of life that's hard to come by elsewhere! With just 7 cities spread across 147,000 square miles, most of the state experiences the flavor of rural living.

There is a sense of unhurriedness, leisure, and fellowship with neighbors that is reminiscent of times past. People are good-natured and eager to help. Friends gather at local diners, fairs, and rodeos, and stop to chat in the supermarket. Even within the cities – the largest one having just 102,000 residents - there is a small town feel.

Local agriculture and ranching are often the economic backbone of these areas. In the western area of the state, timber and tourism are also important industries.

Many of these small towns have a distinctively western flavor where cowboy hats, boots, and horses are a staple of the Montana lifestyle. Most of these towns have annual festivities that celebrate both local traditions and the Old West. These events include rodeos, trail rides, parades, fishing derbies, antique shows, huckleberry festivals, and more!
